Marjane Satrapi is an Iranian-born French illustrator and graphic novelist. Her seminal work Persepolis has drawn praise and controversy for depicting the Islamic Revolution and its impact on those growing up in Iran. The graphic novel was adapted to an animated film in 2007, which Satrapi helped direct.
